Animal Word Search — Twelve Creatures Hidden in the Grid

A themed word search is more satisfying than a random one, because the theme itself is a hint. When you already know every answer is an animal, a stray Q or a doubled F in the grid stops being noise and starts being a lead — Q suggests nothing here, but a pair of Fs points straight at GIRAFFE. The hunt becomes deduction rather than pure scanning.

Twelve animals are hidden in a thirteen-by-thirteen grid: ELEPHANT, PENGUIN, DOLPHIN, GIRAFFE, LEOPARD, OCTOPUS, BADGER, FALCON, IGUANA, WALRUS, BEAVER and MONKEY. The list spans land, sea and air deliberately, and mixes the instantly familiar with a few that take longer to spot. Words run in all eight directions — across, back, down, up and along both diagonals — and cross one another wherever the layout allows, so a single letter often does double duty.

Claim a word by pressing on its first letter and dragging to its last. Mouse, trackpad and touchscreen all behave the same way, and the trail highlights as you move so you can see the exact path before releasing. Getting it wrong costs nothing: the selection clears and you carry on. Found animals lock into place in the grid and strike through in the list below.

A timer runs from your first touch and the finish card reports your time, which turns the puzzle into a race against yourself if you want one and is entirely ignorable if you do not.
