Word Scramble — Put the Letters Back in Order
A word scramble is the purest form of word puzzle: every letter you need is already in front of you, in the wrong order. There is nothing to guess and nothing hidden — the answer is sitting there in pieces, and the only thing between you and it is seeing the pattern. That makes it a different kind of satisfying from hangman, where information arrives a letter at a time.
Each round shuffles one word from a bank of more than ninety, covering nature, objects, places, science and everyday life. A one-line clue appears alongside it, which turns a scramble from a brute-force letter-shuffling exercise into something you can actually reason about. Seeing RECGLIA with the hint "a slow-moving river of ice" is a puzzle; seeing it with no hint at all is just work.
Build your answer by tapping the letter tiles in order. Tiles you have used grey out, the answer row fills in as you go, and a letter placed in the wrong position turns red the moment it cannot lead to the answer — so you get told you have gone wrong immediately rather than discovering it at the very end. Undo removes the last letter, Clear empties the row, and neither costs you anything.
Longer titles and phrases keep their word breaks. Each word is shuffled separately rather than the whole phrase being thrown into one pile, so the shape of the answer is preserved and stays readable. The scrambler also checks its own work: if a shuffle happens to come out identical to the answer it reshuffles, because a scramble that is already solved is not a puzzle.
A streak counter tracks consecutive solves and remembers your best run for the session, and words you have already seen are held back until the whole bank has been played. Everything runs in your own browser — no account, no download, nothing uploaded — and it keeps working offline once the page has loaded.
How to play Word Scramble
- Press "Start game" to shuffle a word and reveal its clue.
- Read the clue first — it narrows the field far faster than staring at the letters.
- Tap the letter tiles one at a time to build your answer in the row above.
- A letter in the wrong place turns red straight away; use Undo or Clear to back up.
- Solve it to extend your streak, then press "Next word" for another.
