A Pomodoro Timer That Runs the Whole Cycle for You

The Pomodoro Technique is simple: work on one thing for 25 minutes, take a 5-minute break, and after every fourth work session take a longer break of 15 to 30 minutes. The fixed end point is what makes it work. It is much easier to start a hard task when you know you only have to stay with it until the timer rings, and the short breaks stop a long day from turning into a slow one.

This timer runs that cycle without you managing it. Press Start and it counts down your focus session; when it ends you hear a chime, the completed-session count goes up, and the break starts by itself. After the fourth focus session it gives you a long break instead of a short one. If you prefer to start each session by hand, switch off "Start the next session automatically".

The countdown also appears in the browser tab's title, so you can see how long is left while you work in another tab. Timing is based on the clock, not a ticking counter, so it stays accurate even when your browser slows down background tabs to save power — a common problem with simple web timers. You can also turn on a desktop notification for the end of each session.

Every length is adjustable. 25/5/15 is the classic, but plenty of people find 50 minutes of focus and 10 of rest suits deep work better, and a shorter 15/3 cycle is a good way in for anyone who finds 25 minutes daunting. The rhythm matters more than the exact numbers.

For more on making the method stick — what to do in a break, how to handle interruptions, and why most people quit it in the first week — read our guide to the Pomodoro Technique. Nothing is installed or sent anywhere; the timer runs entirely in your browser.

How to use the Pomodoro Timer

  1. Press Start to begin a 25-minute focus session.
  2. Work on one task until the chime. The countdown also shows in your tab title.
  3. Take the break that starts automatically — 5 minutes, or 15 after every fourth session.
  4. Repeat. The counter shows how many focus sessions you have completed.
  5. Open Settings to change the lengths, turn off auto-start, or enable desktop notifications.

Questions

Does it keep time if I switch tabs?

Yes. It counts down to a fixed end time rather than a ticking counter, so it stays accurate even when the browser slows background tabs. The time left also shows in the tab title.

Can I change the session lengths?

Yes. Open Settings to set the focus, short break and long break lengths, and how many sessions before a long break.

Will it notify me when a session ends?

It plays a chime. You can also enable a desktop notification in Settings; your browser will ask permission the first time.

What is the Pomodoro Technique?

A time-management method: 25 minutes of focused work, a 5-minute break, and a longer break after every four rounds. The name comes from the tomato-shaped kitchen timer its creator used.
