Random Team Generator — Fair Teams in One Click
Picking teams by hand is slow and somebody always ends up chosen last. Paste the names in — one per line, or separated by commas — choose how many teams you want, or how many people should be on each, and press Make teams. Everyone is shuffled and dealt out so team sizes never differ by more than one person: 23 names into four teams gives teams of 6, 6, 6 and 5, not 8, 5, 5 and 5.
If you split by people per team, the generator works out how many teams that makes and spreads any leftover people across them, so nobody is ever left in a team on their own. Teams of 4 from 18 people gives four teams — two of 5 and two of 4 — rather than four full teams and a lonely pair.
The shuffle is genuinely random and genuinely fair: it uses your browser's cryptographic random number generator with an unbiased shuffle, so every possible arrangement is equally likely. Don't like the result, or want new groups for the next activity? Press Shuffle again. Duplicate names are dropped automatically, and Copy teams gives you a plain-text list to paste into a chat, an email or a slide.
Teachers use it to make classroom groups and lab pairs without accusations of favouritism; coaches use it for training-session bibs; offices use it for quiz nights and coffee pairings. For a team of two per group, choose people per team and enter 2 to get random pairs.
The names you type never leave your device — the whole thing runs in your browser, with nothing stored or uploaded.
