Christmas Hangman — Thirty Festive Words With Clues

Christmas hangman solves a specific December problem: a room full of people of wildly different ages, a gap to fill, and no appetite for explaining rules. One screen, one hidden word, everybody shouts letters. A five-year-old and a grandparent can play the same round and both contribute, which is more than most party games manage.

The bank holds thirty festive words: REINDEER, SNOWMAN, STOCKING, MISTLETOE, GINGERBREAD, ORNAMENT, CHIMNEY, SLEIGH, TINSEL, WREATH, CAROL, RUDOLPH, SNOWFLAKE, NUTCRACKER, CANDYCANE, ADVENT, BAUBLE and more. They range from the immediately obvious to the ones that take a moment, so a mixed group stays engaged rather than one person solving everything.

Every word carries a one-line clue from the moment the round begins — "nine of them pull the sleigh", "kiss underneath it", "a house you can eat". That keeps the game a matter of working something out rather than calling vowels in order, and gives a group something to talk about between guesses. Six wrong guesses still ends the round, so the clue makes it more interesting without making it trivial.

Guess by tapping the on-screen keyboard or typing on a physical one; used letters grey out either way. It scales up well on a projector or a television, so someone can come up and tap a letter rather than crowding the keyboard. A lost round reveals the full word with the missed letters marked, which is the detail that makes the next one better.

A streak counter tracks consecutive solves and keeps your best run for the session, and words already played are held back until the bank is exhausted. No account, no download, nothing uploaded, and it works offline once the page has loaded. For the same theme in another shape, the Christmas word search hides twelve of these words in a grid.

How to play Christmas Hangman

  1. Press "Start game" to draw a Christmas word and reveal its clue.
  2. Tap a letter on the on-screen keyboard, or type it on your physical keyboard.
  3. Correct letters fill into the blanks; wrong ones cost one of your six guesses.
  4. Use the clue to narrow it down before spending guesses on rare letters.
  5. Solve it to extend your streak, then press "Next festive word" to keep playing.

Questions

How many Christmas words are in the game?

Thirty, each with its own clue — from santa and reindeer through to nutcracker, mistletoe and advent. Words you have already played are skipped until the bank is used up.

Is it good as a party or classroom game?

It is one of the better ones, because the rules need no explaining and a mixed-age group can all contribute to the same round. It scales up cleanly on a projector or television.

Do the words suit young children?

Most do — santa, angel, gift, holly, elves — and every word has a plain-language clue. A few like gingerbread and nutcracker are longer, which is what keeps it interesting for adults too.

How many wrong guesses do I get?

Six, the same as standard hangman. The counter shows how many remain at all times.
