Halloween Hangman — Thirty Spooky Words With Clues
Hangman is already the easiest game in the world to run for a group — one screen, one word, everyone shouting letters. Swapping the word bank for Halloween turns it into a seasonal activity without changing anything anyone needs to learn, which is why it works so well in the last twenty minutes of a lesson in late October.
The bank holds thirty Halloween words, from the obvious to the slightly harder: PUMPKIN, SKELETON, VAMPIRE, WEREWOLF, CAULDRON, BROOMSTICK, COBWEB, HAUNTED, ZOMBIE, MUMMY, GHOST, WITCH, GOBLIN, SCARECROW, POTION, RAVEN, TOMBSTONE, PHANTOM and more. They sit firmly on the friendly side of the holiday — nothing here is genuinely frightening, so it is usable with young children.
Every word carries a one-line clue shown from the moment the round starts. That is what stops the game collapsing into guessing vowels in order: "a witch stirs her brew in it" makes CAULDRON gettable, and gives a group something to actually discuss rather than just calling out letters at random. You still get six wrong guesses, so the clue makes the round more interesting rather than trivially easy.
Guess by tapping the on-screen keyboard or typing on a physical one — both work, and used letters grey out either way. On a projector the letter tiles and keyboard scale up well, so a child can come to the front and tap a letter without needing to reach the keyboard. Lose a round and the full word is revealed with the missed letters marked, which is the part that makes the next round better.
A streak counter tracks consecutive solves and remembers your best run for the session, and words you have already seen are held back until the bank is exhausted. No account, no download, nothing uploaded, and it keeps working offline once loaded. For the same theme in a different shape, the Halloween word search hides twelve of these words in a grid.
