A child learning to type does not need a sixty-second test on the hundred most common English words. They need short rounds, short words, and letters big enough to read without leaning into the screen. That is what this is: thirty seconds, three and four letter words, set in type roughly twice the size of the adult version.

The word list is built from simple, concrete nouns and CVC words — cat, dog, sun, star, moon, frog. Every one is a word a young reader already recognises on sight, which matters because the point of the exercise is finding the keys, not decoding the word. Put an unfamiliar word in front of a child learning to type and you have made it a reading test with a keyboard attached.

Thirty seconds is short on purpose. It is long enough to produce a real number and short enough that a child will happily go again three or four times in a row, which is where the practice actually happens. A minute feels like a chore at that age; half a minute feels like a turn.

Feedback is immediate and visual rather than verbal. The word being typed is underlined in blue while the letters match and turns red the moment they do not, so a child can see they have gone wrong without anyone telling them. Pressing space moves to the next word. At the end they get a words-per-minute number and their accuracy, and the words they missed are struck through in the list.

There is no account, no email address, no download and no advertising inside the game area. Nothing about the session is collected or stored, and the page keeps working offline once it has loaded — useful on a school tablet or a phone in the car. If they outgrow it, the main typing test is the same game with a full minute and adult vocabulary.

How to play Typing Games for Kids

Roughly ages 6 to 10. The words are three and four letters, all of them ones a young reader already knows by sight, and the type is much larger than the adult typing test.

How long is a round?

Thirty seconds, and the clock only starts on the first keystroke. Short rounds work better at this age because a child will play four in a row rather than dread one long one.

Are there ads inside the game?

No. The game area carries no advertising and no external links, so there is nothing for a child to tap into by accident while playing.

Does it teach proper finger positions?
